charging non existant..
hay guys,
my bike last year decided to refuse starting via ignition button, and ive had to
push/bump start it now ever time i want to ride.
i thought it was the reg/rec and have swapped the original one for a blackbird reg/rec..
the battery is one size smaller, but i have not had any problems with that..
what should i be looking at?
thanks

If it's not the switch, it may be the relay. Try the easy stuff first.
If you have a voltmeter, look to see what voltage the battery is at. If you don't have a voltmeter, a light bulb with wires spliced onto it will give you an indication of the charge based on how bright it is... It's ghetto, but it works.

not really on the light bulb thing, a battery could be almost dead and light the bulb up. Thats how we used to kill batterys for customers when I worked at Autovalue, when the battery acted up and it wouldn't check bad. Take the battery to a auto parts store they will test it for free, should have 270ish cranking amps.

yall are takin this guy in the wrong direction, by his description he is having a starting issue not a chargin issue. to be specific a chargin/electrical system. u said u are able to push start it meaning your fuel pump is priming and working?? you are just unable to electronically start the bike?? answer this: you replaced ur rr, if your bike was not charging the bike would not continue to run after riding. when you push start it are u able to ride it for long periods of time???? if so then get the "chargin non existant" out of ur head. if u answered yes to this your focus should be on that clip on control that says "run" and "start." hopefully i didnt come off as a *** but wiring schematics and troubleshootin is my occupation.....
1. you are able to ride the bike after gettin it started?
2. the fuel pump is priming when the key is turned on?
lets start there and try to re-vamp your problem and discription......gotta get u goin in the right direction....

hey guys,
after bump starting the bike i can ride it, for a long distance..
and when i turn the key, and flick the run switch on, it primes very weak!
when i press the ignition button all the dash lights dim.. i have charged the battery fully after replacing the reg/rec and have ridden it but it isn't charging...
