battery problem

battery problem
Hey my bike was out for a few months with a flat and a dead battery, i fixed the flat and bought a new battery for it went for a ride and the next day the bike would not start. checked the fuses all of them are good jump started the battery and worked took for a ride and when i turned the bike off again and tried to start it it would not star any idea what could be happening.. any info would be helpful

Or you have a drain somewhere... Those aren't fun to find...
Check the voltage across the battery terminals with the bike off (should be ~12.5 for a charged battery). Turn the bike on, and check the voltage again with the bike at varying RPMs (probly idle, 3000, 5000, 7000). The voltage while running should be 14+. If its lower, then you probly have a charging problem.
If you check the voltage at night and the next day, or a couple days later the battery is down to below 12, then you have a drain or a dead battery...

Same thing happened to me and it turned out the new battery was bad.[:'(] Also make sure your connection is tight, a buddy of mine was in a hurry and didnt tighten one of the bolts took the bike up to the dealer to have them look at it and they found it as soon as they took off the seat. Needless to say he felt like an ***.
