Battery? having a little problem here
Ever since I performed the rust remover and tank sealer on my bike, it has been starting up great and running good, but I havent been driving it hard just to make sure everything is running the right way. Today I drove it home from work and redlined 1st and 2nd gears and the bike was fast and ran/shifted smoothly.
So I told my roommate that the bike was running good and he wanted to try it out. So the petcock was already on and not thinking I turned it off and started it and he took off. He went around the block and the bike stalled out on him coming back down my street. So I switched the petcock on and I couldn't get the bike to start and the battery started chugging and the lights got real dim after cranking it about 10 times.
I find it hard to beleive that after driving the bike hard just through 2 gears, that the battery would be shot. Maybe it's just a coincidence but I don't know. Any suggestions? Everything has been fine until now. Maybe I just need a battery.

i had this problem before. but it was not the battery. i didn't let the fuel pump pump enough fuel into the float bowls of the carbs before starting. thus, before the system had a chance to fill with fuel, i had the petcock off and ran the lines and carbs dry. charge your battery and see what happens if you need to.
I had the same issue and have to agree with 313 that it is somewhere in your fuel system. mine happened to be that my two of my needles were almost completely shot, floats were not set right, and generally caused all kinds of problems. When was the last time that your carbs were cleaned or looked at?
Did you happen to notice if your bike was running a little warm perhaps? Thats at least what happened to mine before she went all to crap.
Your battery is probably OK if you know how to rejuivinate it. Its possible, but sometimes a new battery is easier.

I have personally never checked the carbs, so it's probably a good idea that I do. The guy I bought it from only drove it 1000 miles, and said he re-built the carbs/cleaned them because the person he bought it from had it buried in a shed for like 6 years or something.
I have a battery charger here that has a desulfate feature, I will try running that overnight and then charging it and see how that works. That will revive almost all batteries unless one of the plates is shot or detached.

if you ran the carbs dry, odds are you just killed the battery before it could get enough fuel in the system to start. i have killed my battery after running out of gas trying to get it to start....on more than one occasion.
Well, I'm pretty sure my problem is the fuel pump. I disconnected the line from the pump that runs to the carbs, turned the key on, nothing, tried cranking it, nothing was coming out, and the fuses are all good and the intank and external fuel filters are brand new as i sealed the tank recently.
Wonder how much one of these damn pumps are. I would rather get a new one instead of someones used one on ebay that is also 17 years old. I only have 10k on my bike.

pumps on ebay aren't all that bad because chances are that the bike was a wreck or basketcase before it ever saw high milage. besides that, f1, f2, f3, and cbr 900, if i am not mistaken all use the same fuel pump. so your choices are pretty good should you go ebay. they didn't start going intank fuel pumps till f4 anyway.
