I bought a 2002 recently and it came with cheap flushmounts. I wanted to replace with Stock(ish) signals but I can't figure out how they stay in the hole. I purchased the gasket/brackets in the diagram but feels like I'm missing something that keeps them in place.


Also had a question about these intakes. Do these come with the bike? I couldn't find any parts that match in the diagrams and they were zip tied to the fairings. I don't know what they're called so couldn't find anything online.

 

Look at diagram. The tube section of flat plate faces outside towards light.


You got it on backwards.

 

Ok but that wouldn't make it stay in place. The bracket doesn't secure anything. The only issue would be if the OEM signal is thicker than the knockoff but I still don't see how it would be secure other than the wire.

 

Exactly. Wire goes through tube section to protect it. Then bolt & nut goes through thin section of flat-plate.

It's barely held on now because too little threads on nut. When bolt goes through thin section of plate with no tube, there's lots more threads for nut to engage. Also need thickness of gasket to fill up gap.

You need to spin plate 180-degrees so tube section goes over wiring. Then flip it inside-out so that tube section aims to outside. Then plate will sit flat against inside bodywork. And bolt will stick through with more threads to engage nut. You should be able to see end of bolt flush with inside of nut.

Then install factory OEM Sumitomo connectors on aftermarket lights so it's plug-n-play installation to factory harness. No hacking of wires. Because when it doesn't work and blows fuses, you'll want to be able to quickly unplug aftermarket lights and plug back in original OEM lights for troubleshooting. If it works with factory lights, then something went wrong with aftermarket lights.

Ah I see where problem is. Winkers only go through upper cowl but doesn’t bolt to it. Bolts to inner/middle cowl underneath. You can see larger hole for cables and smaller one for bolt. Has re-inforced back side for firm clamping.

Oh wow I don't even have those. Will order those, thanks. Now it makes sense, I bet previous owner removed them to make room for their air intake extenders.
