954rr fork preload nut stripping
Hello all. My name is Ryan. Ive been riding Sportbike's for about 5 years, and grew up on dirt bikes. Ive spent a few years as a professional mechanic and have always worked on my vehicles. I've got an 03 954rr whom I recently did a full tear down and rebuild on. But for whatever reason, suspension components don't seem intuitive to me. So that's where im coming from.
On to the issue, Ive had this bike for a few years and have gotten accustom to setting my suspension for street and track. Until recently everything has worked well. However I recently installed race tech springs and gold valves along seals and races. After intalling the new parts into the fork tubes, but before intallation on the bike, I did a functions check. Again everything worked well. I'm getting all my adjustability out of the rebound/compression valving and preload. After installing on the bike however I began running into problems. Obviously I intended to build both forks equally, but the left fork keeps stripping preload adjuster nuts. This only happens when I remove all preload and attemp to dial in a new setting. (I'm loosing weight and wanted to start from scratch). I've installed two new nuts and stripped those 2 plus the original, so 3 in total. When removing the top cap with damping rod from the fork, the adjuster stays stuck. I have an extra complete bike, so out of frustration I've been I've been swapping complete caps with damping rods. But now I'm out of spares and need to figure out what I'm doing wrong. Any ideas would be helpful. Sorry for the long first post.

Welcome to the site. It would be very helpful and take a few mins and look around. You would see the "How to" under CBR954.
