954 cylinders
I have my 02 954 motor apart, cylinders and pistons all measure within wear limits. There is some scoring on the front and back of the cylinders, should I hone them? Can I hone them? Or should I put new rings in a call it good? Thanks in advance for your help.
a lot of people told me that i wouldn't be able to hone my cylinder walls because of the nikasil lining....
they honed up real easy with a basic automotive hone and some brake cleaner/wd40. go for it.
my walls were really scorred bad too, how close are you to the wear limits? if you're close, measure again after you hone and hatch.

Thanks for the info, that is what I was worried about was the coating. Did you use one grit or multiple hones? Not close to the limits, just some minor scoring on the front and back of the cylinders. Thanks again.
i didn't use anything special. the hone i have is the kind that you use with a drill, and it has 3 grinding stones that are spring pressured, something like $15 from harbor tool and frieght.
how bad is the scoring? are you catching a fingernail in them when you run across the walls?
