OK, we now have a Youtube video to listen to, as the output shaft is turned you will hear the noise, I hope ;-)

wow, that is a strange noise!

i've never heard anything like that before. does it make that noise as you spin the output shaft when the motor is not running?

That's what I was going to ask. Sounds like a playing card in your spokes.

haha, thats a very good way to put it.

if it does or if it doesn't make the sound while the motor is running will help you figure out where the noise its coming from.

Sorry been away. There is no noise when the motor is not running and the shaft is rotated. The noise only appears in one section when the output shaft is turned. So the noise is not there, you slowly turn the shaft and it makes the noise you keep turning and it stops again. A guy here who used to be a motorcycle mechanic said it cound be a bearing, but I doubt it. Remember this bike has been sitting for 6 months not used, a new battery was fitted, the bike started and the noise appears which was not there before. There should have been a slight amount of oil at the bottom of each bearing as they are mounted vertically on the gear shafts. I hoper to get there this weekend to see for myself.

i think its the bearing.

you've replaced the shift rods and drum, so you know its something in the output/counter shaft because if it was in the main shaft, you'd hear it all the time because that is always spinning.
