Wierd Noise

Wierd Noise
I just recently purchased a 2001 Erion in mint condition 5,000 miles. I haven't rode the bike yet b/c it's still cold here in the northeast. I run it once a week to let the fluids circulate and to let the motor heat up. When I give it gas it makes a noise like a knocking sound coming from the right side around where the oil fill is. At idle the bike runs fine no noise, but when I give it some gas it makes the noise. It only makes it the instant I hit the gas. If I give it throttle and let it rev up the noise isn't there the motor revs fine at high rpms. If I just rev it up and hold it steady at a given rpm its okay. Just the very instant I throttle it from idle theres a knocking type sound for a second. The motor is stock and has an Erion pipe with stock header. Does anyone know what this could be?? Thanks...

RE: Wierd Noise
The oil was changed by the previous owner just before I got it with Amsoil synthetic. The bike has been sitting for nearly two months since purchase. The sound is like a clunking or knocking sound. It kind of sounds like metal to metal, but not 100 percent. I'm thinking if it were something serious it would do it all the time at idle and with constant throttle, but it only does with a quick snap of the throttle. I was wondering if it was the Honda Titanium Exhaust Valve (HTEV). Thanks for your response.

RE: Wierd Noise
I had the same problem with my 954 but not that bad. I was talkin with a co-worker and he remembers having to replace a lot of clutch baskets, and primary gear that drives it, which is on the crank. I guess there was a bulletin, but i'm not sure about a campaign, or recall. So you may want to contact your honda dealer and see if there is a campaign that doesn't have a expiration date on it so that honda may be willing to pay for it. And if you are good with a dealership, sometimes they might be able to call their local honda rep, and say how good of a customer you are and if they are willing to goodwill these products. So there are a few options, if they don't work, then you need to replace those two parts and they will get alittle pricey.

ive got a buddy with a 954 and he had a noise kinda similar when he cracked it kinda hard and fast.he ended up having to adjust his linkage for that exhaust valve.dont know if this helps any.also doesnt sound like the sound ur describing but i know they all seem to have that faint low rpm tick around 3 or 4 thousand.,..,..,,.,..,.when in doubt twist it harder
