Default wierd noise after installing manual cct

ok so i bought this bike about 3 months ago and installed the APE manual cct. i had did what the instructions said and hand tightend it and then back it off 1/4 of a turn. after getting the bike back togethor it still rattled so i went back in and turned it some more and after doing this 6 times im starting to think its not the cam chain. it only makes the slapping noise either when its hotter than 130 degrees and it doesnt make the noise if i hold the clutch in. its really annoying when i ride it cause it sounds like the chain is slapping around. any advice would be great. Thanks

it doesnt make the noise if i hold the clutch in.

You have clutch problems. I'd be looking at the clutch and basket for the source of the noise.

im hearing the slapping up top around were the cct is. it really only does it if i blip the throttle real quick but i can hear it bad when i ride, specially if i pop the clutch to wheelie it sounds like it slams. it sounds as if the cam chain is trying to keep up with the cams. iv adjusted the cct over what the company says and it seems to not go away.

Get a tube, hold one end to your ear and use the other to fish for where the sound is coming from exactly. Or btter yet get a mechanics stethoscope from an autoparts store.

if possible try to readjust the MCCT when engine is running; get it to roughly the right place, back it out a touch then turn the CCT in until you feel there are smooth, reduced amount slapping vibration on the bolt/nut, stop and tighten it there, when its too loose the cam chain will slap against the guide making rattling noise. If its too tight it will make wired noise, like a wining noise as engine rev up and your idle will slow down.

Do that first, if that doesn't fix it you might want to check clutch basket, valve clearance and others for the source

my ape manual never stated anything about tdc. but with my f4i is really hard to adjust it without having the airbox and throttle bodies off. when i 1st put it in it made the noise and i tore the bike down to the cct almost 8 times and adjusted it a quarter turn each time and it still wont go away. but it sounds like i can hear it at both the top end and in the clutch cover. it wierd that it doesnt do it when i pull in the clutch and rev it.

I recommend you do it at TDC.

should I put it at tdc and adjust it in another 1/4 turn or so? I'm taking it to Honda Friday to see what they think

If the noise goes away with the clutch pulled in, then 98% of the time its clutch related.
