My 01' 929rr has a burned out O2 sensor from too much gasoline additive. Replacing it has really been a hassle! I ordered a new one, but the mechanic said it was the wrong part. The part I received was for a California model. He is currently trying to bypass the error code, but is having a difficult time. Any advice on what to do would be much appreciated.

 

Buy a O2 eliminator from Dyno Jet and plug the hole.

 

that looks like it should do it. A website I was reading stated that the red light and FI light will remain on though, do you know if this is true?

 

No, that is the idea behind the O2 eliminator. I use this on my bike since I have a 1/2 system and no red light.

 

turned out to be the ole servo motor afterall. Got it replaced and 500 bones later, gotz me a workin bike! Thanks 4 the help.

Ever since I first read about the HTEV and the servo motor, and how it actuates the air box flapper too, it seemed to me that system could really bugger itself up -
So what was the final verdict? Your bike was running too rich because of the motor not positioning the valve and the flapper properly....? Educate us.

 

The mechanic was really beating around the bush and wouldn't explain in detail how or why the servo went, but was possibly related to the fuel additive. He did open up the servo motor and showed me the stripped gears inside. Lesson learned- 91 Octane is just fine!

 

A lot of times the servo motor will get off center thus trying to correct itself and will strip the gears in the process. Mine did this when I tried to do the ECM reset.
