Hey guys just wanted to tell drop my bike for the first time today. I'm a first time rider and in PA it's still a little cold 35-40 But i had to ride. I was only doing 15mph but hit some gravel and salt snowed here the other day. But all is well will be back on the road when my new stator cover gets here! Just venting a little thanks!

 

Is it a 929? If it is and you are a new person to riding, you should have really started with something smaller like a 600. I am sure that everyone out here will agree that starting out on a liter bike is not a good idea, they have a whole lot more torque and just all around power, not to metion handle a different. But anyways good luck, hope you dont drop it again fairings are very expensive.

sorry to hear about your drop. how bad was the damage?

 

He didn't ask for riding advice and I doubt a 15 mph crash has anything to do with how big the bike is. He is just merely expressing he dropped his bike for the first time and looking for support not criticism.

 

Yes it's a 01 929 I know it's big bike for a first one but i' 6'5' and 300 pounds a 600 whould have been no fun. Only damage cracked stator cover, frame sliders took most damage thank god I put them on! Will be back on the road as soon as the part comes in. Thanks for the support!!

 

my first bike is my 929.. its fallin twice since i've had it though.. mom backed into it once.. sucks cause you cant get mad at your mom and the 2nd time i got a fire call at 3am and bolted out of my driveway not thinking about the parade we just had and hit some horse ****.. fuked up my stator cover and broke both mirrors and some cracks in the fairings.. still made it to the fire though and the 16hr day with hazard pay payed for my bike except i kept the stator cover.. just going to sand and repaint it.

 

The "best first bike debate " continues on CBR Forum. I'm serious, I love this topic - I guess cause there are so many angles to consider.
I can only offer my angle -
I'm a 48 year old bizjet mechanic who got my motorcycle license last July. ( I learned in a nine-hour class on a GS 250, by the way ) I work on my own stuff, including the bike.
So there I am - I'm not a wild kid who wants to do wheelies, and I don't have any bad habits cause I don't have ANY habits! I'm a newbe. So in my case, as an old man, I believe I'm less likely to get in trouble.
I will always maintain that a Harley guy with 10 years on Hogs will get in WAY more trouble on one of OUR bikes than a new rider would, cause the Harley guy is used to an 800 pound bike with 90 horses, and he likes to crank the throttle. Hard habit to break.
But a new guy will learn very quickly how to treat that 929 throttle - I sure did. I've heard guys complain as well that the 929 is harder to wheelie than other bikes - well I'm damn glad of it!! I'm sure it's saved my *** more than once.
