I bought a 2000 929 about a year ago. The bike has been and still seems to be running great but the other day the engine oil light came on on the way home from work. Same thing happened again the following day but not on the way in. Today I heard a thumping noise when I turned on the ignition key. The only thing that could be making the noise I would think would be the fuel pump but the bike starts up and seems good to go. The Haynes manual says need to check oil pressure and I've got no gage. Anyone have any recommendations before I spend $bucks$ at the shop?

 

i assume u have but have u checked the oil level. also is the thumping on startup, just when you turn the key to on, or when u flip the switch and prime the fuel pump? where is the sound coming from( general area)?

 

Yep first thing and tinkered with the grounding on the oil sensor. The thumping definitely sounds like the fuel pump and happens just when you just turn the key on. I have a aquaintence that has a shop and sells used bikes. I am running it over there tomorrow.
