Hello so my husband and i have a 2001 CBR 929 erion racing edition and the other day we have been meaning to get a spare key for it.. But we didnt and the key actually broke off into the gas cap. So now i have no key to start the bike and someone told me about the key code. But i cant seem to be able to get to it because its inside the gas cap and i cant open it. Someone told me about where the helmet hangs the only thing is that its in the stoarge compartment so i cant get to that either. Does anybody have any advice or can please help me out idk what to do. Since the key is in the cap lock, try turning the lock with the rest of the key, screwdriver, or anything else that could be useful. If you can get it out, a locksmith should be able to make another key from the broken parts.

 

I just bought my 2000 929 project this last Friday and the only key the owner had broke in the gas tank as I was buying it. A new gas cap and ignition is fairly cheap. I looked this up because the locksmith was taking forever and couldn't get it open. The tank had been sitting for years and has lots of varnish in it. So in the end before they left I said just break the tumbler I dont care. So he took a flathead, NO HAMMER, NO DRILL, picked the lock while applying pressure, then forced the tumbler to unlock and we used another flathead to lift it up (it was stuck). The buttheads still charged me for the two hours of labor they didn't accomplish anything but now I have the cap off. I knew I was going to replace it before we did this though. I did see metal shavings on my finger when I felt around but I think that is because the lip on the inside of the tank was bent. not sure if it was already bent or if we caused it but I dont think we caused it.

 

Yes, a locksmith can make a new key from broken key parts.
