Why not go to a lock smith and ask them first. Bring them the gas cap and ask if they can make a key for the lock on it. Make sure that you have the proper paper work to prove that you are the owner...just in case you have to prove it.

If they can't I think you'll have to get a new ignition and gas cap to match the key.

Don't forget the helmet lock too. The set (ignition, gas cap, helmet lock)sells for about $195, not cheep. I too would try a locksmith.

A skilled locksmith CAN make a copy of the key if you bring him the gas cap. We had a locksmith on call at the shop I worked at and on at least three occasions they came out and made a replica of the lost/broken key by using the gas cap as a reference.

make sure you have like three made at that. and hide one for a hidden spare. just in case you lose the other too.

Nope it should be the same key for both gas and ignition. Sounds like the locksmith will have to make a mold of the ignition, or helmet lock to make a copy.

Goodluck with that.

You can't get the gas cap off without the key. Call a locksmith to come out or pull your clip-ons and triple clamp to remove the ignition.
