Newb needs help (frame questions)
I picked up a rebuilt restored 01 929 last week and I knew it needed steering head bearings in a bad way. Well, it turns out it's needed them for a long time and some idiot wheelied the hell out of it with trashed bearings and the frame is all messed up in that area. Anyway, to make a long story short I need a frame. I see them on E-bay ranging from $500 to well over a thousand. Obviously I'm looking for a good deal on a good one.
Looking at the fiches at Ron Ayers it sure looks like any frame for a 929 or 954 will work. Is it true they are all the same? Why is there so many different frame (part) numbers listed for the 929's and 954's?
These are the part numbers listed for 2000 through 2003. Same part numbers for all years:
50100-MCJ-670
50100-MCJ-770
50100-MCJ-780ZA
50100-MCJ-790ZA
50100-MCJ-A00ZA
50100-MCJ-L00ZA
Whats up with that? Whats the difference between them? Is it safe to not care and just find a straight frame for a 929 or 954?
I've never had to deal with this type of situation before and I'm freaking out. The bike is not safe to ride with the frame as messed up as it is and I of course regret taking the risk with this bike. It seems I could probably swap out frames over a weekend without too much drama so I'll try and go that route

RE: Newb needs help (frame questions)
I'd feel MUCH better with a 929 frame but I'd really like to know if I'd be making a mistake passing up any good deals on a 954 frame. I'll try and remember to call a dealer tomorrow and see is I can get a straight answer. If I have any luck I'll post what I find out. I've NEVER been led astray by a dealer[sm=smiley17.gif]
Major sarcasm there.
