Default Newb Questions

I just bought a 2004 1000RR and I had a few questions and I was hoping to getsome answers.

-Overheating Question- I live in Central FL, and today the weather was around 75, but as soon as I stopped, Red-Light, Stop-Sign, etc,you could watch the thermostat just keep going up. It reached as high as 220+. Now according to the manual 240+ is the threshhold, I'm just curious if this is a common thing with the 1000's to heat up so quickly?

-Gearing/Sprocket Question- Now when I ride at about 80 it seems to be around 5200rpms, is that right? Do you think it has an aftermarket rear sprocket, and how can I tell?

Also, this is my first streetbike, at what RPM is it considered acceptable to just cruise at? This thing seems to make power for days, but I really feel it kick in at about 5k+ and I havent had the courage to get it over 10k. LOL

Thanks in advance.

to answer your first question yes its normal to get that hot but i dont normally start to worry untill it gets around 230 then i start cursing the stoplight lol

your gearing is correct. it should be reading about 80mph @5k rpm in 6th gear.

Itake mine above 10k on a daily basis and let me tell you the bike has no problem going up there but i wouldnt cruise at that speed.....I normally keep mine in 6th artound 4-7k depending on what traffic is doing.....

Hope this helped you out!Have fun out there

As for feeling the power kick in at 5000 rpm is because the Second Set of Fuel Injectors have turned on and BAM your OFF!!!

Your bike has an upper rev limiter. Rev it as hard as you like, you aint gonna hurt it. Believe me I know from skating around Barber on spent tires.
