Seeking advice on parting out my 929 vs selling
Hello,
I am new to the forum, but I have stopped by many times and have found the advice on the board very useful. So I thought I would see if I could get some opinions on parting out my 2001 Honda CBR929RR vs selling it.
Here are the details on the bike:
2001 Honda CBR929RR
13,700 miles
K&N Air Filter
Targa Half Tank Gaurd
Metzler Sportec M3 tires with 4,300 miles
located 30 miles north of minneapolis, mn
I bought the bike brand new in august of 2001, and tucked the front end at 30 mph on a frost covered cross walk square in late October of 2001. The crash was on the left hand side. I had the bike inspected and repaired by a dealer. The repairs included replacing the alternator cover, bar end, turn signals, rear set, a cooling system hose that runs next to the lower left fairing, and the fairing hanger. As you probably know, the fairing hanger attaches to the oil pan, and that attachment point on the oil pan broke off. The shop said not to replace the oil pan because it wasn't worth it if I didn't mind a little vibration from the fairing. So Iattached the piece from the oil pan to the new hanger, took a piece of steel cable and tied it to the hanger and the coolant resovior mounting point. I have never had any rattling or vibration from the fairing.
I had the upper cowl, middle and lower left fairing professionally repaired and repainted. The paint on the upper cowl is slightly darker, but it is hard to see the difference. There is also some touch up paint where I accidentally scratched it near the turn signal when I reinstalled the upper cowl. I also put some touch up paint near the red stripes because the Honda parts warehouse could never send me the right ones, so I made them work. There was a small scratch on the white sticker on the tail section, so I took those off and I had a sign company I worked at make some custom stickers for me.
The bike has always run great. The clutch is smooth. The chain is stock, all the rollers work freely, and there are no links that are binding. I have always run the bike on Honda oil and filters. The only thing I noticedwas when I was taking the bike out for the spring, I checked the brake pad thickness because I wasn't sure how long they should last, and the right outside pad was worn more than the other three. So I replaced all four front pads with Galfer pads and installed new pins. I never noticed any pulsing or had any strange feeling from the front end, but I don't ride the bike very hard. I've only been up to 100mph a handful of times.
Iam not sure how much interest there would be in the bike because it was down, or how much I should be willing to let it go for. So I thought about having it retitled and parting it out. I'm just worried about there being a good enough market to be able to sell all of the parts for a reasonable price. It would be terrible to have a bunch of leftover parts that will cost more to get rid of than it's worth. I'm just not sure what would be the best course of action, and could really use some advice. I want to sell or part out the bike because my physical condition makes it hard to work on.I can only ride 50 - 100 miles per trip, but any riding is better than no riding. I am worried about doing the 16,000 mile maintenance and not being able to fininsh it fora couple of weeks because my back goes out. And while parting it out would be difficult, atleast I could do that over time. Selling it outright would be the easiest, but if I can't sell it for a good price, then that wouldn't be good. I would like to sell my bike and truck so I can pick up a 2008 cbr1000rr, then maybe look into rotating bikes every year or two.
Any advice will be greatly appreiciated.

I would not part it, even though its been down, it looks good. You will get a lot more selling it. Now you are in the same climate as me, so selling it right now you would get killed on it. I would say if you can hold out till spring though, you could still get $4k for it at least, maybe a bit more. If you part it you will likely only see 3k total, maybe, and of course that will be a pain in the ***.
yeah forget about parting it out, that bikes is in great condition. You can always put it up on ebay and see if there are any takers for the price that you want as you can always set a reserve. If it doesn't sell then you just loose the listing fee which is about $45-50 and if you reconsider lowering the price you can also relist it again for free the second time around for a lower price....
Unless you have whole bunch of time to spend parting it out (especially if you are thinking ebay) selling it whole makes a lot more sense and a lot less headaches for you.
just sell it out right. ive parted out bikes before and its a pain in the @$$ ! and like you said you wnat the money to put towards a new bike. so get what you can for it and use it as a down.
Thank you to everyone for the help. I will be selling it whole. I have thought about the ebay direction for selling it, but I was a little concerned about the market for selling in november. Atleast it was nice to see the $4k mentioned. I was hoping for somewhere in the low fours, but wasn't sure if it was ok to mention that. Thanks again for the help, it has put me a lot more at ease about trying to sell it.
