Default Melting Speedo

Hey Guys,

I'm thinking about buying a 2001 Erion 929 and I noticed that that speedo showed some slight warping of the plastic like it was melted. The owner claims that this is a common problem with 929's when they're left out in the sun for long, the speedo plastic will melt. Is this true? Has anybody else experienced this? Thanks...

Interesting even though I never heard of such a thing. Although I can't say that I leave mine out in the sun unless necessary. Always in garage.

Take that for what its worth, I've personally never heard of such a thing before
My only suggestion is to Smell it, electrical problems (involving fire/smoke) have a very distinct smell

It's common only if you have a double-bubble windscreen and park the bike just right with the sun reflecting off the bubble, creating a hot spot or hot area on the speedo.

Like a magnifying glass effect.

That's why I carry a small cloth to cover the speedo if I'm leaving it parked outside all afternoon.

The bike does have a double-bubble windscreen that shows some wear. Looks like what your saying is correct. I think NYErion929 has a point too. The bike is located in NY and it doesn't get that hot here. Maybe there could be electrical problems.

The double-bubble effect doesn't need it to be hot, only sunny. Burnt mine when it was only 80 or so out.
