Melting Tach!!!
Anyone seen or heard of this issue?
Took the bike for a spin over the weekend, and noticed that the tach needle had actually melted! It now reads around 2500 RPM off?
WTF!?
The remainder of the display is mint, nothing else changed?
Will provide pictures at request! Crazy!
Thanks

Does the bike have a double bubble windscreen? Those things have been known to leave burn marks on the display from focusing the sunlight, sort of like a magnifying glass, and I would guess they could also melt the tach needle.
Well... I had thought about the magnify issue... but no I do not have a bubble screen, in fact I have the stock windshield, painted! So no light could go through?
Plus, after thinking this scenario through, wouldn't that in turn burn or melt the plastic cover of the entire display before melting the tach needle itself?
Weird to say the least, .. and I'm guessing you can't buy just the needle! I'll have to get a whole new cluster... cheap I'm sure!
Weak...

The painted screen can reflect the sunlight and if it is just right, doesn't take long to melt stuff. Double-bubble (and painted screens) are notorious. I carry a small cloth to cover the gauges if I cannot park in the shade.
