Just bought my first sport bike.
I just purchased my first sport bike last week. I've been riding a 96 HD for a few years now, I've always wanted a sport bike. Last week I bit the bullet and picked one up off of craigslist. The bike seems to ride nice and LOTS of power. I had a few questions about things I found wrong w/ the bike. I am a Volvo diesel master technician, so I know my way around engines pretty well.
First thing I noticed once I got the bike home was when I run it on the swingarm stand, w/ the clutch disengaged the bike seems to rumble, then when I pull it in it stops. This isn't as noticeable when the bike is on the tires. Almost sounds like a bad bearing but I'm not sure yet. Haven't removed the covers yet.
Another thing I noticed was the engine sprocket cover was missing and the case was broken off. It is not leaking oil but it leaves a hell of a mess w/ the chain lube flinging around. Is this something I need to worry about?
After finding these few things wrong w/ the bike, I'm worried about riding it. Is there anything else beyond the issues I've found I should be looking out for w/ this bike? I'll try to get some pictures of the bike up here and maybe someone can spot some of the mods done to it.
Thanks for any info posted

Is the chain moving when it rumbles? Look at the rubber chain slider around the swing arm. The chain slides on it and will rumble as is runs on the ridge. That's normal. Make sure it's not worn through causing the chain to grind up the swing arm. Plan on replacing it with chain replacements. Also, make sure the links are in good shape and lubed up.

It probably had a chain explode. It will make a mess without the cover, but what can you do if the bolt holes are gone...
Let's see those pics!

mine has the same rumble with the clutch disengaged. not an issue.
clean the grease off the chain. i mean completely clean. run it for about 15 minutes straight to heat up the chain nice an good and then lube it up. but DON'T over do it. the heat will allow the grease to stick more without slinging.
