Intermittent Speedo/Odometer
well today i got to take my bike out for the first long ride in a long time. About 5 minutes into it (just filled up) I look down at the gauges and the speedo shows im going 0mph while doing at least 60mph (wtf)? I pull over check out what i can see and no loose/hanging wires, so get back on the road again and now the speedo works, 1 minute later it doesnt, then it does, doesnt....... Im thinking it would have to be the speed sensor, No?? Any input or previous experience would be appreciated.
I couldnt keep my mind right riding today, i kept looking at/thinking about my speedometer

the same thing happened to me twice after I put on the led taillight. one of the wires got cut by the back seat when I shut it and it was grounding out. once it wasn't even cut it was just stripped down and touching the subframe.
I was looking over the Taillight wires and sensor wires today and dont see anything that looks stripped or grounding out anywhere...
If it were the speed sensor would it be intermittent or would it just work or not work

it could actually do either. it does just sound like a short somewhere to me. one of the times it was acutally in the intergrator connection on mine. I took apart all my splices and found it. Good luck man. electrical sucks
well i took it out again and this time it only worked when i was first pulling away from my house in 1st gear, as soon as i shifted second it went to 0mph and never came back on... after a few minutes the FI light and a red light came on...
tell me why when it worked i never looked at the speedo but now that it doesnt work it was stealing
my attention and i had to go home cause i was staring at it

Do the speed sensors on these use a magnet sort of deal where it sends a squarewave to the cluster and a higher freq means higher speed on the display? In my experience those are either good or bad and don't have an in-between. I'd check the wires and connectors for any kind of break or corrosion and hope that your cluster isn't having some kind of internal problem. Even if you don't find a short, running new wire from the sensor all the way up won't be that expensive to try out.
