I want to say I have mine set up just the way that you are saying but it doesn't want to open the latch completely. It will open it some, but not completely enough to open the trunk. It freaked me out yesterday because I thought I wasn't going to be able to open it! =D

mine is the same to a degree i have to wiggle the key back and fourth a couple times and then it will just pop open i have a hot bodies supersport undertail with stock tail light so it might depend on which one you are using.

I found an alternate solution to the trunk lock. I've got an aftermarket undertail also and after many miles of use with no problems one day on a ride I stopped at a gas station and discovered the damn thing had completely fallen out!!!

My wallet was in the trunk so after considerable fiddling I was able to pop the catch mechanism.I decided to just leave it off since the average joe probably couldn't figure out how to stick his fingerin there and tweak it just right to get it open.

OK. I finished installing the undertail completely last night. The trunk lock still doesn't function 100% perfect, but I can wiggle it to open, and I guess that's cool with me. If I find it giving me trouble down the line, I'll probably just go to the finger technique also!
