can you weld the bottom of a case on the block side with a mig welder? someone in my area said they have used a spool gun to weld pieces on cases... i wasn't sure... help welding guru's

 

Wouldn't surprise me if it could be done. I've seen guys who could damn near weld a coke can together. If you can find a real pro, he will be able to tell you for sure, though.

What happened to the case?

If so, Y2K had the best suggestion - TIG's the best way to go.

 

my prob. is that i know the tig is the best way to go but buddys tig went out on him back in feb. and they are not cheap!!! so wondered if i could accomplish the same thing with a mig. i was on the last post that someone mentioned it and i just wanted to get more feedback. i am hoping so! is the case cast? as you can tell i am not a welder lol

 

It has been a long time sence I have ran a spool gun but, Tech may be different, but ten years ago I would never have used a spool gun on the case of my bike for many reson's, 1st the weld look's like s**t 2nd. the older spool's have a very porus weld. if the Argon psi is to low you will end up with pitting all over. If it was my bike and I couldn't aford a new case I would fork out the money to find a welder with a good Tig and get it done right. I welded a case on a FourTrax 250R years ago and It looked better then the hole but it got the Job done. find a Tig welder and someone who know's how to use it.Good luck!!
