Default New 02 F4i owner, first quesion!

Hey guys, I just signed up, so bear with me.
Ive had my F4i with 7,500 miles on itfor about 2 months now, and ever since i bought it, Ive noticed a nice knocking sound around 6k rpmor so. It doesnt make a sound at idle or lower rpms. From what ive gathered using the search, I think its the CCT, which i understand is a common problem. Im very good with a wrench, and i do all the work on my car, and ive performed many head, cam swaps on my buddies cars as well, so im not affraid of tackling the job of replacing the CCTmyself. I read threw a few write-ups ive found, and it doesnt seem all to difficult. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Just wondering how "big" of a problem this is. Like i said, I dont know to much mechanically about the bike yet, and I wanted to make sure im not going to hurt anything if i put the job off for a couple hundred miles. Im a full time student in college, and also work 40 hours a week, so im not going to have time to tackle the job for a couple weeks.
Like i said, its quite at idle, and doesnt seem to be getting any worse in the 3-400 miles ive put on it since i bought it. Thanks for any help!

The CCT shouldn't exactly be a "knocking" sound. That descriptions sounds really scary. lol. Since you read about CCT's, which I thank you for instead of just posting a question about it, you should know that it's very common in F4i's. If you never had the problem, you will get it.

Like most people also describe the sound, it sounds like rattling marbles or BB's. Not exactly a knocking sound. Most people say aloose CCT won't hurt your bike. It's just plain annoying.

I have an 06, it has done it since I bought the bike. Since then I've had the bike proffessionally tuned and was told that it really is nothing. Every bike has its squeaks and rattles. Don't let it drive you nuts!

agreed...
a "knocking" sound would not be the cctl.
cctl is not the same as cct ok? the part that rattles is the cctl. if it was the cct then you would really have something to worry about.
car wrenching is much easier than bike wrenching...why? cause you have so much space! replacing cctl is not hard, just tedious cause the quarters are very tight. just be patient and you're golden!

Rattling or a bag of marbles is a much better way to describe the sound. Its definetly not an engine knock(trust me i know what that sounds like).
And as for having more space on a car........maybe for most, but not on an LS1 haha

So if it is the CCT, im not going to do anymore damage by putting the job off for a couple weeks?

cctl....
yes...you can wait a long long time if you wanted to, but the noise will eventually drive you nuts.

how soon would the cctl noise kick in? i hear some noise but i only have i think around 1600 miles on it. sounds more like ai need a valve lash type noise (sounds like lifter tick on a civic motor).
