How bad is it? Can you post a pic of the damage? If it's only some surface rash, you should be able to do what I did.

I sanded it down to smooth it out, and then laid down some black vinyl to cover it. I cut the vinyl to a design to match the bike. I'm pretty sure that if your damage is in the most part minimal, then you should be able to do this with bright metallic silver vinyl. Only costs 5 bucks too. Here's a pic of what I did on mine.

 

Hey fox....any tips on the type of vinyl? How thick? and does it noticeably stick out (have a noticeable ridge) when you look at it close? I've got some places on my tail that are cracked from a crappy repair job by the body shop that i think i'm just gonna cover up.

It's just regular vinyl they use at vinyl graphic shops. There is no noticeable ridge. It's the exact same as the factory decals on the bikes. On the tail, I rub my hand over it and I can barely feel that there's anything there at all. Vinyl is a life-safer I tell you. Looks like paint, but it's not permanent like paint. (or as expensive).
