Crankcase damage . . . repairable?
Finally took some photos of the damage to my crankcase when I lowsided my929 a few weeks back.
I have taken the bike to my mechanic for an appraisal. "It's bad, but I've seen worse was the comment".
So I will post the photos for opinions. One can see the crack on the crankshaft bearing support.
The engine will have to be removed and stripped down. The case will be sent to a machinist/welder specializing in aluminum.
They will grind/fill/reform the case back into its proper configuration. The crankcase cover will be replaced new.
An expensive lesson for an afternoons ride.

RE: Crankcase damage . . . repairable?
For what its worth, when my boy went down he also chipped a piece off his crankcase. I talked to a alluminum welder (small shop near my job) He told me hes done this quite a few times and it can be done right on the bike. May save you a ton of money if you look up alluminum welders and ask them personally....

RE: Crankcase damage . . . repairable?
I specialize in street rods, but from the looks of the pic it can probably be done on the bike. First off while it's bolted up it retains rigidity and the proper alignment. Second, I would try to find someone who knows how to use a Henrob welder/torch setup. It produces a very fine flame that is great for welding aluminum to the standards of tig. I use it over tig when makingAL welds that have to be dressed for appearance. Then be sure they properly prep and clean the area, standard stuff. Good luck with it, I had a quad one time somebody JB'd the sht out of and it held, so a proper fix should be no sweat.
