hi ..

i was out today, riding fine, nice trip of 40kms or so on the freeway, pull in to meet a friend and, pffft, bike dies. very odd. filled it up (thought it might have been fuel) and after a few half hearted attempts to turn over, i just get the starter relay. the dash clock has reset itself, the lights are dim.

check under the seat and it looks like the original battery (circa 2001). it has had a good life.

so, do you think it is just an old and dead battery? or has something else happened, say the charging circuits (stator?) gone? i guess the first step is to replace the battery. any other thoughts?

get the battery checked at a local auto parts store for starters but yeah it sounds like it maybe droped a cell or something

 

the 929 are famous for **** up starting systems,if its not the battery bust out a multi meter and start checkin **** out,i had the same problem but my was a couple of ****ed up teeth on my starter

 

yup, it was the stator. lost a phase and it took the rest out.

any suggestions? OEM all the way or are there better options?

 

There was a post not too long ago on this very topic. I can't remember which one, but just search this section of the forum with a keyword stator and you'll get alot of info.
