Bar ends/Handle bar vibration?

Bar ends/Handle bar vibration?
My handlebars are vibrating enough that the screws on the bar ends are coming loose. Is this much normal? Should I just tighten them?
It does not really seems like they are vibrating a whole lot more than they should but enough to take cause this problem.
About tightening them. The problem is only happening on the left one right now. I had the same problem with the right one last year but it when i fixed it, I had to tighten it so much that the bar end is almost locked into place..very little play. Unlike the left one before the problem which still allowed some spin. Is there a certain way to tighten them properly?
I do not know a lot about all the different parts on my bike but with your help I am learning a lot more.
Thanks for your help.

RE: Bar ends/Handle bar vibration?
Tahoe SC,
I had the same thing happen with my 2001 929 then I tried taking them off just to check them out and turns out the piece inside that the screw screws onto was broken. Maybe that's what's why your getting on your bar ends.. Don't know much about vibration but I get some on my bike too. I don't have a steering damper but I read here on the forum that our bikes need it.

Yeah they don't really spin. Maybe a quater/half rotation when i twist it but after I tightened the the right one theres none.
I think I can get a damper from my uncle who owned the bike before me. I just need to come up with a way to get him to give it to me for free! Will a steering damper help small vibrations like this?
Eric, what did it cost to get a new piece for where it screws into?
Maybe it is time to get some new handle bar ends but I find that a lot of them are just too flashy for my liking.

if you go lighter bar end, it will vibrate more.
as far as damper curing it, it may take away some wobble from steering but as far as vibrations while still and vibrations not from the bars going back and forth, damper will do little to help it as it's tranferred energy from the engine, not the roadway.

Yeah I was thinking that it wouldnt help much.
I need some new ends because mine are fairly scuffed up. At least the right one is. Its came loose after the bike fell over but I do not know why the left one is loose now.
I still need some way to convince my uncle to give me damper for free though. lol.

jrocken,
I got some good used ones on ebay for $30 shipped but I replaced the the whole thing not just the bar ends. if you only need one you can probably get cheaper then $30. bar end you can also get on ebay for pretty cheap just depends on what you want. good luck

RE: Bar ends/Handle bar vibration?
Do Bar ends come with screws and everything needed. I guess the left one vibrated off yesterday on my way to work because it was gone when I went to go home.
If the inside is broken how do you fix that?

RE: Bar ends/Handle bar vibration?
One word: LOCTITE
If the inside isn't broken use Loctite when you screw in the new bar ends. FYI The aftermarket bar ends that I have seen don't have the offset like the factory ones so the inside surface won't sit flush. I have ridden 2000+ miles with my current set without any issue.
