954motor into a 929bike motor swap

RE: 954motor into a 929bike motor swap
this is the best upgrade you can do for the 929 if you're pressed for hp. things you'll need for the swap:
1. 954 motor/throttle bodies/ airbox
2. 954 main wiring harness
3. CDI
4. instrument cluster/ subharness
5. startswitch
6. headlight switch (not sure if they interchange I know the start switch is different)
If you've got another bike to ride while you gather parts it's ideal. In order to keep the cost down to a minimum every time you buy a part from a 954 sell the one from your 929. If you do everything smart and don't get in a rush final out of pocket cost shouldn't be more than $800.
I've put two complete 929's together off of e-bay (yes they are clean title) for under 6k, and I've got so many extra parts that if I had a motor, front wheel, and a start switch I'd have a running (no title) stuntbike. Once you get into a rush, you get careless with the money and dish out more than you should. I saw a mint 929 subframe w/rear pags go for $16.50+ $22 shipping two nights ago. Just take your time.

crazy900rr;
Thanx dude, good info and good advice.
The 929 engineis still running strong, amazingly enough (50K miles of very hard riding, one clutchandone tranmission)[:@]
...the 929 motor really has been pretty amazingly strong, I've just beat it to death.
I've got time to collect the parts needed and not have much down time. I have the 954 motor now.
The bike is deffenitly worth saving, olins fork internals, olins shock, scott damper, galfer waves all around, braded lines, TB x-metel can...
...and it's great in the twisties, the track and for stuntin.
Isn't there a way around the CDI, instrument cluster/ subharness, startswitch and headlight switch?
If anyone knows please let me know.
-thanx again

RE: 954motor into a 929bike motor swap
I now have a running "929/954rr" and it runs awesome! What a difference from a worn out 929 engine to a fresh (9,100 miles) 954 engine, the thing is flippin fast.I had to use a 954 wire harness, cpu, upper wire harness, throttle bodys, air box, radiator and hoses, gauges and the left hand control switch. I spliced the right hand control switch using a 7pinconector from an old toyota pickup wire harness. I also had to run 3 wires from the upper wire harness to where the tip over sensor mounts under the seat. Other than all that, it's a pretty clean swap.
I also put 954 swingarm on the bike that I got on eBay for $80 shipped, it works and looks nice.
A couple more things I have coming from eBay are, 05 cbr1000 forks with Ohlins springs and a Brembo 19X18 radial mount front master cylinder. This front end's gonna be freakin awesome with the radial mount calipers on my 929's 330 Galfer waves. All I need now are 10mm spacers between the binders and the forks, and a cbr-1k front fender.
I'm glad I decided to give the old 929 a new lease on life. The bikeallready had a scott damper, an Ohlins rear shock, Galfer waves all around and steel braided lines. For ah yr2000 bike, this thing's gonna ROCK!
Thanx for the help guyz.
