Default Temp Gauge Fluctuation

Hi,

I have a 93 900rr and I noticed the other day that the temp gauge was reading 3/4 and when I was in a right turn it would climb to nearly the red line. Could I be low on coolant?

Where does the temp gauge normally stay if all is well?

TIA

Hi meanie, kinda depends on your climate, but here in the U.S. at 5k feet altitude mine stays about a third of the way over--getting up to almost half in hot weather. All these other guys with their new-fangled digitry have number displays...

The first thing I'd do is check coolant level. If it's not running too low, then I would suspect a clog somewhere. I'd remove and flush (or not remove it, but it's messy) the radiator and check the hoses for gunky buildup. Don't forget there's a white plastic overflow tank under the seat, too...

check the temp meter, the temp sond, and the thermostat, or coolant level.
