my 95 also has what sounds like a noisy valve. I try to remind myself that unlike a car there is no sound deadening on a bike so every little internal engine noise is heard. I run conventional oil but am going to do synthetic this year, I wonder if that will make a difference? EIther way though I think that our engines just have little noises that they make and I figure that if the noises are indicitive of a problem, then that problem will not take long to get much worse (i.e. spun bearing or burnt valve) especially consider how high our engines rev, a problem will get worse really fast with revs like that.
Hope I could put you at some ease but please let us know what your mechanic says. Be good.

again I would think that if anyone had a rod knock or a spun bearing than that problem would stop the engine from running within a few minutes of hearing the noise. If you have a rod knock that means that your bearing has excessive play or has spun. Now think of what will happen when that bearing is subjected to 10,000 RPMS or so. Whatever is left of it will be molten metal within a minute and then you will definitely know you have a problem. My Toyota supra spun a rod bearing and it sounded like a machine gun at idle and then for fun I went and drove it down my street cause I knew it was shot and within a half mile the engine would just cut out when the clutch was in from the friction. Once something like a bearing problem happens its not a drawn out issue, it can't physically work much longer after it fails. A slight tapping noise is most likely valve noise or the result of a lightly burned valve or carbon buildup. Hope that puts everyone's fears to rest, I think we are all noticing valve noise that may or may not be associated with the clearances of our valve train. It wouldn't be a bad idea for everyone in this forum to check their valve clearance specs.
