Default A speedometer problem on my 900rr

This is my first post here, so if I dont obey some hidden rule, please dont ban me !

I have a 1996 Honda CBR 900RR. The biggest problem is that the speedometer does not work, as far as I know it has not worked for a couple years now. The needle for the speed always shows zero, but the RPM guage works fine. The actual odometer seems to work, but the trips odometer is all out of whack, like the numbers there are loose or something. Like if I were to reset it, I would go a couple miles and the numbers would change to like 22222 or 44444 or something. But like I said, the total miles seems to show correctly, 27,750.

Anyway, my question is, how can I fix this, does this sound like a problem with a cable or something, or would i have to get a whole new guage ? If THAT is the case, can I get them new or would i have to find a similar bike to get this part of off.

Thanks for the help !!

The 96 is an electrical speedometer. If the odometer works and it increases every time you drive it then it is oviously getting a signal. Go to ebay and look for a cluster gauge. I just bought one for 35.00. Johnny
