help!!! I took my 99 cbr 900 to get tune up and the guy told me to do spark plugs...and i been goin to this place for a while and he's done good work before...he owned the same bike before and knows it inside and out so i said yea, whatever you need to do... he took out plug 1...it was fine...took out plug 2...it striped out the spark plug hole....he told me he took plugs out while the engine was completely cold...so there shouldn't be any way for damage to occur while taking them out....so the spark plug hole is striped due to previous overtightening...he tells me he has to remove motor, put in heli-coil on cylinder 2 and rethread it,...how often can this happen...has it ever happened?? anyone???...just want to make sure it not gonna happen again and/ how to prevent it...is motor removal really necessary?? my bill is rackin up and i dont got much cash and bike is still there :-(

 

seems to be comon i just had it done last week 600 bucks ouch when u get make sure and i repeat ride it like u stole it rev the **** out of it because i did and it came back out the day i got it back so i took it right back now it fixed but if u want to be cheap like i did for a year use threadlocker high temp red like 11 bucks

 

Yeah, that can happen. The head is aluminum......it's not very strong when being twisted on by metal. It's easy to strip that **** out, just as the oil drain plug is commonly stripped...........no need to be an Ape with the ****.....tight is tight.
