Default same 'ol charge problems...with a twist. Please help!!

I would really appreciate some feedback. So, my 93 900rr is doing the dreaded discharging the battery and leaving me along the road thing. I have replaced the battery, stator, & rectifier. Took it out today. It dies alongside the road. There was cursing and gnashing of teeth. The twist is, sometimes when I turn my bike off, the headlight will stay on. Sometimes not. But usually I have to physically unplug the light to turn it off. Something tells me these problems are related. Any wisdom that can be offered to ease my suffering would be greatly appreciated. I have looked all through this forum and have got some great ideas for tomorrows wrenching session. But I was wondering if anyone else has noted the headlight issue, and if it is a clue as to the problem

I can't wait till I can ride this bike without worrying, because when it's running it's an absolute joy.

Many thanks for any replys

That really sucks man! The headlight thing might be the switch problem. Not sure it can be related to the charging issue though. Most of the time this problem can be eliminated once you had changed the rectifier, alternator or battery. Check out for any bad wiring; or else get a new wiring especially within your alternator and rectifier. Just a thought too, be really sure the new rectifier is in good condition, check out the voltage it delivers when you throttle it.

Good luck!

Thanksfor the reply dinez74. What a bummer though, I was obviously hoping the headlight issue would be a smoking gun pointing the way to my problem. I already am digging into the wiring, and someone has been in there gooping some of the connectors up near the fuses, apparently to waterproof them. Some connectors from the rectifier had been cooked but I had replaced those. I have also taken out the key switch and ordered a new one. I have the wiring diagram for the bike and plan on going over the wires with a fine tooth comb. Sigh... I see a lot of shop time in my future. Oh well, at least it's winter and raining a lot so I don't feel to bad about all the lost riding days.

I have checked out the voltage from the rectifier as you suggested and it is within specs. I will be sure to re-check my stator (alternator). I replaced it before I replaced my old rectifier. So possibly the old rectifier damaged it? Thanks again for the reply

Wish I could help you more but my electrical capacity already within the limit. There is the possibility the old rectifier cooked the alternator.
I had a similar problem a year ago but it does not drag like what you are facing now. I can't start her, battery was out. Luckily I was in the workshop, the mechanic jump start her, checked the voltage and it showed below the spec. Changed the rectifier and that's all; she runs like a beauty.

A lot of guys here had somewhat charging problem with their 900; hope they can give any positive thoughts for our fellow 900!

I had the same charging issue, but not the headlight thing... Check your relays and make sure none are stuck open. Located under the panel on the clutch side... I replaced all electrical parts (stator, rectifier, etc) All along the rectifier i bought was bad, Dont buy one of those one on ebay..... Buy a factory replacement....

actually i would check your ignition switch, sometimes those connections on the inside get stuck on or off. and any cbr900 whenever the battery is dead it will run like crap or die. so i would suggest checkikng that.
