I was just reading about this in my haynes manual. Ill type a few sentences and maybe that will help you in case u dont have one (manual). Im a newbie too. I dont know much mechanically. i can change plugs , clean carbs, etc. but thats about it. Hope this can help you. Maybe you overlooked/forgot something. (This is summarized). Idle speed should be checked before/after the carbs are synched & when its obviously too high/low. Before adjusting, make sure valve clearances & plug gaps are correct. Turn bars back/forth to see if idle speed changes. If it does there is a problem with the throttle cables. Engine should be at normal operating temp. Snap throttle open and shut a few times, then recheck idle speed. If a smooth steady idle cant be achieved, fuel/air mix may be incorrect. Let me know how you make out.
thanks very much for reply
double / triple checked those except valve adjustment (no idea how to do this)
Ive had the carbs off again today and just cant see anything wrong fuel/air screws all at 3 turns out now
if i spray carb cleaner over the 1st carb on the left the bike idles v bad and sometimes cuts out, an air leak i think but cant find it
