Reving Problems above 4000 rpm 98 CBR900RR
I bought my brothers CBR 900RR 1998 for $1000 (20k miles). The bike has sat in a Garage from 2003 to now. The cycle starts but does not rev above 4000 rpm and occational blue flames come out the pipe. I was taking the carbs off for cleaning and found a modificed air filter setup in the airbox. Does anyone know from the picture if this is a standard modification to get less rpm?
Thanks
I wondering if I paid too much for the cycle

That seems about right. It will increase low end by allowing more fuel less air in, should still rev past 4 grand though. I have a similar air box mod, only I used pistacios and it will rev well past the redline now before floating valves. I would try bungee chording the lid down a little more see if that gets you much. Other wise the price seems great. That mod alone should run you $1300.
Your right the nest was not the only problem. Two spark plug sockets are stripped. The cycle is only running on two compressing cylinders. I guess this is why I got a deal and the thing has sat for 4 years from 2003.
I got them resocketd for $64 parts and labor. ( I removed the Cylinder head and took it to the dealership)

Wow, you actually bought it like that. I figured you were messing around and just took a pic to be funny. Im sorry, if i'd have known I would have been more serious in my post. Good luck.
Wait, what?!?!
You seriously found that after you purchased the bike?
How does it run w/o the nutz and striped plug holes???
I've never seen/heard anything like that!

Happens to me every winter. Mice seem to love crawling up the insides of my lawnmowers, snowblower, leaf-vac, mini-van and anything else they can get to. That is, however, the worst case of home-steading I've ever seen.
Of course, leaving it that way will let you get a quick snack in case the munchies hit you in the middle of nowhere

Well no quick snacks. They ate every last nut and just left shells. I have the engine back together. I had the dealership adust the valves. Now the the spark plug sockets are replaced, carbs cleaned and ballanced , vavles adusted and Cylinder head /Valves cleaned of carbon. I'm about $100 over budget with the new tires. I have lots of cleaning to before I get all the parts back on. At least the frame is clean now.
It seems elbow grease, carb cleaner and some engine brite are about all the tricks I could find to clean up the enigine outside. I prefer painted black engines, they are easier to clean.
