melted headlight plug

My first post here, I just picked up a 94 rr and the left headlight plug is melted and the green wire is melted near the plug. Does anyone know what would cause this? Is it a comon problem?

Well, it could be that someone tried to use bulbs that were rated for way higher wattage than what was supposed to be used.
That would be my guess.
That or a short.
