Inverted fork conversion ??

RE: Inverted fork conversion ??
Hi, new here although I recognise a few names from other forums. This conversion is probably the only one I can really give advice on. Looks like 66' has told it as it is and jap'900 proved it too.
Yes, they fit on perfectly. You'll need the entire front end from the 929/954 although, if you want to be really cheap, 900 calipers will work (all switchgear, throttle, brake lever etc from the 900 will go on the later 50mm clip on). Here's what it'll look like

Yes, it's a RC51 SP1 front rim. I went for it as the spoke pattern matches the original style. The discs bolt straight on and the calipers line up but it needed new spacers. Not sure why as it's the same dimensions as the 929/954 wheel but at least three other people I know who have done this mod had the same problem. The RC51 uses a 20mm axle rather than 25mm on the 'Blade. The outer diameter of the bearings is the same so you just fit 929/954 bearings and collar (tube between bearings) into the RC51 rim. Only problem is a flange on one side that the bearing sits up against is too small. Nothing some careful filing can't sort out though.

RE: Inverted fork conversion ??
I have but the original forks were past their best so it's not really a true comparison. They certainly feel stronger with less flex and being fully adjustable means they can be more accurately set up. They are slightly longer than the originals and steered slower as a result but only needed 1/2" slid through to correct it. The most noteable improvement though is the brakes. Those big 330mm discs give incredible stopping power.
