I have an issue with the gearbox on my bike and hoped someone here may have run up on this problem before. The shifting is OK, I have never been on a Honda that wasnt "clunky", but when I let off of the gas or press the clutch in to change gears, there is a knocking noise that comes from the gearbox. I am pretty much clueless about anything dealing with motorcycles and had a shop tell me that I would be better off replacing the whole engine if I was going to have to work on the gearbox. I find that hard to believe, anyone have any ideas about this?

 

Oh, one more thing to add, it is a 1995 900RR

 

easy first step is to check your clutch basket and berring inside

 

I have done some very extensive research into the clunk in the transmision when you open up the throttle and back of the throttle and its normal. It accually back lash in the shift dogs.
