Just noticed a tiny drop of oil coming from the sprocket cover on my 96 so im suspecting the countershaft seal is on its way out Ive done some digging and the part no 91207-MW0-003 looks to have a small retaining lip which will probably prevent me from picking the old one out and knocking the new one in. Has anyone had any success doing this or is it an engine our job .
I don't have any personal experience with that seal. Hopefully someone on here who has direct knowledge will post up soon. The image of the seal does make it look like it has a lip or shoulder on it. The split case image shows a groove where that lip probably fits into. I don't see anything in the shop manual that specifically mentions that Oil Seal. Only shows where it goes on the countershaft.
Based on this image from one for sale in ebay, I'd say that you're going to need to split the case. You might be able to force one in there, but damage to the seal is likely, and you'd never know for sure if the lip dropped down into that groove that it sits in.
Thanks for the info much appreciated i have looked on other bike forums and researched bikes that use the lipped seal and consensus is to remove the lip and use RTV silicone to secure in place. I might buy a few to practice on. Don’t really fancy splitting the casing in my freezing cold garage but I will if the quick fix looks sketchy
