Default Common 900 Problems

What r some commin problems that 900's have? I read that the cct's and the fuel pressure regulator was a common problem on the 600's so how about the 900's?

electrical regulator/rectifier goes out often from what I've heard, mine did. Fuel cut relay died on mine as well, not sure how common that is but you can just setup for gravity feed if it does. other than that I haven't had any issues *knock on wood*

Wow! New look to the website!

Anyway I just wanted to add that my 900rr went through a couple of owners, and they had along the way spliced through the wiring harness for whatever reason.

I had to get it fixed, since I couldn't find a brand new one, don't know if they're even being made anymore.

Also, the regulator/rectifier and stator had to be replaced.

^^^the rectifier is located on the side of the bike by the tail(at least thats where it was on my 600 havent really looked on my 900) and yes it does have to do with the charging system

Yeah what Chris said

If you take off your seat, you should see a small, metal box that's mounted to the side of your bike, slightly behind the battery I think? Should have cooling fins on it and it fits in the palm of your hand and has wires coming out.

To save you money, you can buy a volt-meter from your local electrical store, or Radio Shack if you have that.

You can then test the bike's charging system yourself to see if you have a bad battery, bad charging system or maybe both.

I know some people use new regulator/rectifiers off of different brand bikes, to save money and they say it works fine. Might save you some money there.

The stator, which is another part of your charging system could also be bad.

That is the round metal object attached to the side of your bike, lower part, I forget which side. IF that's bad, you can order a new one from a company I went with.

Let us know what is wrong, and I can find the company for you later if u like.

The stator is on the left hand side of the bike. On the right hand side is the clutch. Caution - when taking out the stator it's a large magnet and if you allow it to float freely it can magnetize to other objects fairly violently and cause damage to some components.

I just figured I would chime in and try to help others out some.
