It will only kick in when it needs to, usually after you've been running for a while and the engine is really warm. Just like in a car.

When your temp gauge gets up to 217-219 the fan will kick on. Glad you joined the RR club! :-)

The fan should not come on at startup. Does it stay on all the time? What does the temperature gauge read, even when the bike is cold? Is there enough coolant in the radiator? It sounds like you are saying the cooling fan comes on when you start the bike, even when it's cold. If so, you may have a faulty thermo sensor or temperature guage. If the rest of your cooling system is working normally, the fan motor switch may be faulty.

3 is the fan, check the connections, 16 is the thermostat switch, try replacing it if everything else is working

Someone probably wired it to run all the time. Follow the wires back, they are probably connected to a switch now for manual use.

I had this problem at one time.... I pulled over the fuse and fix it back. Since then the fan was operating normal.

Welcome to the club...

sounds like the fan switch has been bypassed or the switch is bad......normally the fan should kick on anywhere from 215 to 220 degrees. Some 900rr's are different in temp, but, other people would agree that 215-220 is the normal range.

I hate to dig up ancient threads but...On my 97 CBR900RR, before I got the bike, some wingnut wired my fan to a toggle switch. Probably due to a faulty switch. Can someone tell me where the fan switch is located on the engine? Thanks
