Default Carb Trouble???

Just bought a Mint condition 1997 CBR 900rr. I bought it with 2300 miles on it. It runs pretty good but is very sluggish and hesitant (sp) when I give it some gas. Carbs??? I have tried seafoam and it helped a little bit. What do I try next? I am not a mechanic savy person. Really don't wwant to spend big bucks to get it fixed. What can I try?

Congratulations on a mint bike. So few miles! Please don't crash it.

A good carburetor cleaning is what I'd do first. If you're not savvy with a wrench though ... find someone who is and that doesn't charge much. Shouldn't be more than 2-3 hours.

As far as I know, there's no magic additive that will do the job of someone physically cleaning the carbs.

Also, you might want to invest in a carb sync tool (about $100). After I synced my own carbs, my bike wasn't so sluggish and hesitant. Its pretty easy, I didn't even have to take off my tank, and takes about 30 minutes. Good luck!

I just got off the phone with a local shop here in New Orleans and they said theyd charge me $100xcarb= $400!! Plus another 40 for the gasket kits. Is this normal? Or is the guy on drugs?

it sounds high you shouldnt have to pay more than 300, I am a mechanic and I know how long it takes. the carbs cant be in that bad of condition or the bike wont run, so they probebly just need a thorough cleaning which shouldnt take long and is easy to do, it is something that you can do yourself to save a couple bucks if you need I could talk you through it to save the money that is just plain too high!!! $516 is too much I dont think I have ever charged more than 400 for everything

Great advice guys, it's a lot cheaper and better to have someone you know do it for you.

Bring a case of beer or some food...or offer to pay your friend.

It won't be anything close to what a dealer demands.
