Default 95 cbr 900rr street fighter project

Hey everyone, wanted to share a recent restoration/street fighter conversion project I'm using an old 95 cbr 900rr for.

A little background on me and the bike. So first off i started riding motorcycles on an 03 cbr 954rr. Amazing bike, stupid fast, infact too fast for me and luckily after that crazy first season on that bike I was still alive. Lots of close calls lol. I was inlove from the first twist of the throttle, I have never felt acceleration like this in my life, and I drive a 500+hp supercharged audi s4 that's tuned and built, still the 954 completely destroys my audi lol. Anyways I blew the motor that same summer (oops) and was looking for another motor for my 954. Well searching for a motor for my bike I found a pristine ninja 400 ex and thought what a decent bike for the wife to start out on. She never rode the bike except a few times in a parking lot and down the road for a couple miles, never rode it again lol. So I beat the ninja around for a couple of seasons and glad I did because I learned how to actually ride a motorcycle and the fundamentals of riding and cornering and all the technical skill stuff was so much easier to figure out on the lighter, smaller bike. Fast forward a couple of seasons and I finally find a motor for my 954 (I was looking but not focused on that bike because of life, extc.) Anyway I found a wrecked 954rr with a good motor and while we were headed to pick up the motor I saw a white cbr for sale in a driveway. No fairings, bald tires, no breaks, just absolute shambles. It was half converted to a street fighter and looked like it was given up on all together. I said to myself nah, I don't want another headache, so I kept on moving. Just a few hours later and im looking on fb market place for a few things i needed and this white cbr shows up on my market place feed. Same bike lol, but the description says they want to trade down to a smaller bike because theirs was too fast for them. I talked to the wife and she wasn't riding the ninja so I gave the guy a call and told him I had a ninja 400 ex he might like better because it was small and light and had way less power. He wanted to check it out and swore up and down the 900rr ran well just looked like hell. So i went back and checked out the bike and inspected everything i could see and hear at the time. We swapped keys and went down the road for a test cruise and i was immediately in love lol. So we swapped bikes straight up and i rode it home. Bike ran amazing for about 3 days lol.
Now we come to the fun part. So i knew the bike needed tires, brake pads, calipers, fork seals, an oil change, new air filter, lots of stupid odds and ends stuff. Ordered tires and calipers and pads and air filter and oil change kit. Now after a couple of days the bike started to run rough and didn't want to idle well and then the choke cable breaks, bring it over to my buddies to park it in the garage to install all the new parts on order and do some more work on the bike and strip it down a bit to really get into fixing it. My clutch cable snaps on the way there so I had to clutchless shift the rest of the way there and go through a couple of stop signs on the way because if I stalled it I knew I wouldn't be able to get it going again until I fixed the clutch cable. Get it to the garage and park it and start tearing into the bike. Pulled the carbs they were horrid, explains why it begin running rough or so I thought. Order a rebuild kit for the carbs, bag em up and bring em home to be cleaned up and rebuilt. Get all the stuff in get the tires mounted, calipers changed, pads changed, air filter, choke cable, carbs redone and put it all on the bike. Turn it over and it's running perfectly. Ride the bike for some more test flights and it's beautiful but when I would stop or get on the throttle a bit I was experiencing some lateral movement from the triple tree and decided to have a trusted shop peak at the steering stem bearing. Wasn't tightened all the way lol. Fixed that and the shop accidentally broke part of the already chewed up spliced into mess of a harness that was on it but didn't notice because it got pulled apart during the putting it all back together process lol. So the bike runs fine upon leaving the shop and all goes well for about 2 days of test fighting, then on the way home from a ride with my friends parents the bike acts like it doesn't wanna start but does then I drive home and think nothing of it until the following day when I turn the bike over and the brand new battery is dead. So I buy a new battery and pop it in, 2 days later it's dead. Okay I'm not buying another battery something must be wrong. I probly have a short somewhere or something I think to myself. Take the tank off and the air box and start inspecting the harness. Harness is ****ed, every inch of this thing is spliced and chopped and pieced back together and sure enough I find my dead short. I also find my rectifier plug melted to the rectifier and the stator is fried. Now I know whats going on but now it's the end of the riding season and I put the bike away for the winter and plan on picking back up in the spring. So i order a harness for it from ebay and some other supplies i think i may need to do some work to the harness. I ended up rebuilding the entire harness basically, only original circuit left is the ignition circuit, the rest had to be rewired/repaired. So I get the bike out in the spring and start doing the work on the harness and did a full fluid refresh, new wheel bearings front and back, then a new rear rim because the internal bearing in the rim was snapped off the caliper side of the rim inside of the rim. Ordered a new rim and wheel hub.
Now the 900rr is running flawlessly and you guys are caught up on the timeline. Now all that is left to do is some minor stuff like a new cluster (updated more modern) and some new hand controls. I also ordered and received new fairings (from China for a steal) and new headlight, turn signals, and new clutch and brake levers. I'm going to be stripping the bike down to paint the frame, gas tank and wheels in a couple of weeks or maybe over the winter months but my project is nearing completion. I never have done any of this type of work before and I'm glad I did, it has been a world of fun restoring my 900rr and getting to the point where I trust the bike mechanically to go across country and back. Looks wise she still looks like a hobos shopping cart with bicycle handlebars but the bike is now finally mechanically and electrically sound.
Here are a few pics of the project so far and some of the work progress. I will be updating this when the bike is completed and looking new again. Hopefully i can bring sexy back lol. Oh also I almost forgot, I threw on a new shorty slip on and she sounds amazing! The vance and hines carbon fiber slip on that was on the bike was cracked and the bracket was broken and needed to be replaced.

One of the test flights.

Getting ready to do some harness repairs

Carbs off, bike stripped down for harness repairs

Carbies, note that the black plastic carb caps were all broken to **** and cracked really badly and i also had to order these and replace all 4.

A little carb rebuild in action here

The new farings look really nice. Im not going to spoil the end of the movie but i will be painting the bike black and red. Im not telling you where what colors are going to be painted but the bike will be painted to match up with the new color scheme of the new fairings. I also orderned new upholstery and cushions for both seats as well that match the new fairings and a red fairing bolt kit.
