Hey everyone! Newbie here from Northern Cali and new to CBR's
Name is Nick, but everyone calls me Nicky. Just picked up my new project bike (at no cost) from my father in law today. A 1999 CBR600 F4. I am no stranger to bikes and usually stick to Kawasaki but hey im branching out now. I have visited this forum many many times, lots of great info, decided to wait to join until I had said bike in hand.... anyhow...
About the bike, it has been in storage for close to 8 years... long story short it caught fire from mice chewing on fuel lines. Plans for the bike are a complete tear down, clean, clean and clean some more, replace what is needed and then to 'street fighter it' (ill probably get hate on that but hell... i can take it haha).
Looking forward to learning what I can from everyone and posting up my progress on the build. Heres a couple pics of picking her up today, the tear down starts tomorrow. Cheers!
Welcome! Looks like you have a nice project on your hands. Keep us posted on the progress. We like lots of pics.
Thank you! Glad to be here!
I just did a quick look around the bike. I was able to hook up a fresh battery to her to see if she would crank but no luck with that, the wiring is far to melted up but luckily i was able to read the mileage... 12,606 miles, i was shocked! Shes still in her prime and being 20 years old, its crazy... anyhow heres some more snap shots in her current state. I have her on my porch for time being, gotta organize the shop today then ill bring her inside. This is definitely going to be fun. Will probably be starting a Built Thread by the end of the day.
Here all the melted harness, oh and an oil leak lol
Its hard to pinpoint where the fire started, but was definitely up front, all front plastics were melted.... and at this point i feel it definitely was an electrical fire (not fuel lines as previously though)
