929 engine swap
i found a sweet deal on a engine out of a 2000 929 can any body tell me if it will bolt in to my 94 900rr ? how difficult would it be to stick a set of carbs on it and would it take much mods to my electrical to make it work?
This is a considerable swap. I have no real knowledge on the details but I know that converting from FI to carb is a tak in and of itself. If you wanto see if it will bolt up the only way is to get the tape measure out and start measuring. I've never heard of anyone doing this swapand without a good degree of electrical apptitude and fabrication experience I would not attempt it. If the motor mounts are the same I would be really surprised. I'm not saying it can't be done but your talking about a totally custom wiring harness here, plus the headache of matching up port sizes and probably some custom exhaust work to make it all fit. It might be easier to leave it FI but then you will need the complete donor harness off the 29' and basically everything else that made the engine run. Save youself the agony and just get some cams and nice power parts for your 900.
How about just getting a 929 bike?
Might be a heck of a lot easier and the bike's brakes, suspension, tires, steering, frame, everything will be tailored and able to handle the power of that bigger engine.
Just sticking a huge engine into a bike isn't gonna solve your problems, it will likely create 1000 other problems.
I knew a guy who had one of the baddest v8 engine cars at our school, and for some reason he decided to shove an even bigger V8 into it.
It seemed he was never able to get the car to run right, he had it out of service for a long, long time and finally at the end of the school year I finally saw it on the road.
It looked like the engine was waaaay too heavy and strong for the car's suspension. It was all over the place and had massive body-roll in turns.
