Default 1998 CBR 900 very hard initial start. Starts fine unless sits for hour or more

New CBR owner "1998 CBR900RR ".

bike is super hard to start have to throttle at a certain point for it to consider firing up and that is after 4 or 5 tries holding starter button longer than one would want to. Once it acts like it wants to fire at that certain throttle position ( I'm guessing about 2/3 - 3/4 throttle) another 3 or more tries. It fires I'm guessing flooded. Then 5 minutes barely staying started. Can't move throttle during that about 5 minute period. Then picks up, takes throttle, still no idle alone for another min or so. Then all seems fine for the most part and I say that because I don't know what kind of power the bike should have. Around 25,000 miles on odometer. Speedo said 170 and still had a little. But think that's off by 10 or so. 15f 45r sprockets pretty sure my count is correct. Also feel that thing should lift front end by power alone at least in 1st. Feels pretty good top end despite the other issues. Cleaned carbs up Not overly well but enough that on any other bike I have had would have been sufficient. Small crack in one of the diaphragms. No vacuum leaks at least by spraying carb cleaner all around. Only Hondas I've owned were Twin Star 200 , CB350, CB360 and a trx250r quad. But have had Yz125,Yz250 750 special, virago 1100 and 125 Suzuki, kawasaki ninja 500 and kawasaki 250 quad and I think 500 or 550 Suzuki street bike but I was 12 and only had it a month. Pretty sure I've covered most of what I've owned. Also worked in Yamaha shop around late 90s for 8 months while I had 250r and was racing county fairs and small local tracks. Mostly to get parts cheap. So have some experience. But going through tough time in life and head isn't working correctly so im asking for a little help because im in desperate need of some adrenaline therapy. Thanks, in advance for taking your time to read and any help.

My guess would be blocked idle jets. The fact it will run up to 170 means the main jets are all good.

You need to clean the idle jets with a needle - you can't just squirt them clean.

Cleaned them with wire all holes both jets. But when I get back in couple days will buy kit tear completely down and meticulously clean everything and put fresh parts in. Will take care of cracked vacuum slide too.
Also mpg blows.80 miles on a tank. Interstate miles. But traveling 110- 130mph mostly but push 150/ 160 few times for short distances. 6-8000 rpm normally oń those trips. I ÿthank you and anything else you can think wanted to reply to you as fast as you replied but got 3 days left with grandson. But will be checking in here and there. Will post progress añd pictures.

jets are clean . I tested pink wire at 12 volts is it possible by cranking it till temp gauge reads 100+ degrees it could heat that diode and cause that voltage to drop to the around 9 volts it needs. It will start eventually after a ridiculous amount of cranking. Then will start till it's off for an hour then it's all over again. I haven't done compression check but I've had some beat engines with terrible compression start. I can't believe it's a compression issue.

1. Measure all jets and verify they are stock sizes. Way low MPG can only be attritubed to too much petrol. Also replace all torn diaphragms. Scrub out secret hidden passages in carb body between jets & carb-throat with PEA-based fuel-system cleaner. That’s where majority of clogs like to hide.

2. Does it start any better with full choke? Or is no choke better?

3. Do spark test when it’s not starting.

4. Post photo of bottom of ignition-switch.

5. Test this hypothesis next time it’s warmed up and starting easily. Measure pink wire at ignitor connector again and compare. Then you’d know exactly one way or other.

I will take those carbs off again. And get some pictures posted as soon as it warms up here a little bit. Reg/ rectifier plug burned up I'm not sure if that could cause anything. Rest of my life is in shambles so my heads been screwed up and I just want to be flying around getting some adrenaline. Thanks for the suggestions. I will work on things more as weather heats up here. No garage so outside doing it all
