Default Wrong air filter?

I just took out my old air filter and ordered a k&n from my local honda dealer for my bike. I put the k&n in and there is like a 12" gap between the air filter screw holes and the holes that screw into the bike. A'm I installing the air filter wrong or did i recieve the wrong air filter?[&:]

by looking at it, i think its the wrong one. i just put a bmc aftermarket one on, and it fit perfectly flush. i would say take it back also. maybe you could check the part numbers and make sure its the right one you need.
