does the linkage move at all
say if you unbolted the shifter from the frame would the shift arm coming out of the engine move
or is the splined rod coming out of the tranny that the shift knuckle goes over the piece that isnt moving

It sounds like there's definitely a bent rod in there. Take the advice of baxsom.
