Default Spare key?

How do I go about getting a spare key? When I bought my bike it only came with one key. The previous owner misplaced the spare one and never located for me after I bought the bike. Obviously I'd have to go to the dealer. But does anyone know how much that would cost me to get another key? Is it as simple as the dealer just making a copy of the one I have?

Thanks.

I just go to a local locksmith (a real locksmith, not a hardware store or Wal-Mart). The bike dealers around here do not have key machines. Maybe $2.

So it doesn't have to be a specially-made key? The key is elongated, will the spare be made the same way? I guess the only difference between the key would be that the spare would be lacking the black plastic piece at the base where the Honda logo is, correct?

Hate to sound dumb to be honest. Thanks again though.

That's correct. It's just a metal key, no Honda logo. Works fine, though. Had spares made for both my 954 and my 600.

Depends on whether there is an immobiliser fitted to your bike.

The HISS immobiliser in the F4i has a transponder in the key that means the bike cannot be started without the correct key in the ignition. Replacing these keys is more expensive. Losing all of these keys requires a new ignition and ECU - VERY expensive.

If the RR has done away with this feature then all you will need is a plain key blank cut to fit by a decent locksmith.

HISS wasn't imported to the US, he's in Florida. The chances of him having a UK/EU imported bike are very low.

You should be able to get a factory Honda key made at your local Honda dealership. Mine has the factory blanks for $11 & cuts it for free.

As randyjoy said tho, you should be able to get a generic copy at your local locksmith.

Thanks for all your help. I went to a local locksmith who was able to make a copy for me. Unfortunately it cost me a bit more than $2 --$8.40 to be exact-- but it was worth it.

Wasn't aware of that, HISS is a PITA tbh; it makes a simple mistake VERY costly.
